My name is Shelby, but I’ll answer to many references of my characteristics. I realize there can be many considering I’m a life-long academic (seriously 29 years of being a bookish nerd). Plus, I am a blonde girl with glasses and a wheelchair. But let’s keep the nicknames polite because I am also Irish and have a fiery temper.
I graduated with a Master’s of Journalism from the University of Missouri in December of 2024. So the life-long academic thing is no lie. I wrote my Master’s thesis about content creation and journalism in/about the disabled community. Many creators and journalists that I spoke with told me that they were motivated to make media content because media that shared information that was relevant to them or depicted functioning disabled life was not available. They filled the void of disabled media representation one social media post at a time.
I am following in those creators footsteps and making a digital media record myself. This blog is the corner of the internet where I share lifestyle, health and travel.
